Even though he has now turned to piracy, Charles tends to have a rather professional, orderly appearance to him. He tends to be clean shaven and his somewhat long hair is often pulled back into a ponytail, tied in place with a piece of ribbon. At 5’8”, he is not extraordinarily tall, but is more than a bit imposing to most people when in full uniform.
Charles wears the traditional Marine’s coat of red madder wool with white cuffs and facings and pewter buttons. Forming an “x” pattern on his chest are his cartridge box and bayonet belts His trousers are made of a rough, off-white wool, ending a bit above his black shoes. He often wears his black military hat, also trimmed white, though he will occasionally trade this for an off-duty hat as needed.

- (dislike two) Long marches
- (dislike three) Egotistical commanding officers

Overal Personality ---(Overall. A good two paras will do) Charles is a fairly quiet person until he gets to know someone. He is not extremely open by nature. However, once he does know someone he can be quite chatty and friendly, often exchanging jokes as though the two had been friends for years. Charles is particularly friendly towards his fellow marines, many of whom he has fought beside for almost two years.
Besides being good natured, Charles tends to be a loyal companion. On more than one account he has protected those he counts among his friends, both in the line of duty and in the tavern. This has led him to be both appreciated and generally well liked within the Marines, as a soldier and as a travelling companion.

Overall History: ---(Overall. Make it as detailed as possible! Please, at least three-four paragraphs!)
Born in Southampton, Charles often heard sea stories being retold at the taverns or by his father, formerly in the Royal Navy. From the beginning, it was clear that Charles was interested in life at sea. As he grew older and came to be of military age, he knew he would have to start thinking of a career. Loving the sea as he did, he realized there were only two options for him- to join the Navy as his father had, or to become a Marine and to try something entirely different.
With his love of adventure and his fairly good accuracy with a musket, Charles decided to join the Marines. Initially stationed at a local port to guard the docks, Charles decided to spend most of the dead time making friends with his comrades-in-arms. Though he was not to stay long in Southampton, it was there that he would meet a future good friend, Robert Howard.
Charles enjoyed the Marines from the moment he joined. However, after a couple of years’ service with them he felt that the service just wasn’t worth it. One day, a couple years after joining, the Marines arrived in Port Royal for what was supposed to be a short stay. It was at the Boar’s Head Inn at Port Royal, one night, that Charles decided the Marine life simply was not paying him what he wanted.
Wanting a bit more adventure than he had come across so far, and hoping for something a bit more lucrative, Charles decided that piracy was a good alternative. It would be almost the same as what he had been doing, he reasoned, except a bit more exciting and a better chance to get rich. With his mind made up, Charles took a small rowboat from the docks and slipped out that night. He knew there were pirates around here. All he had to do was find a ship.

“Make ready!” Sergeant Townsend shouted to the Marines. As one, the Marines removed the leather covers from the hammers that had been put in place to prevent accidental sparking. Within a split second of the hammer covers being removed, a hundred muskets were brought into the full-cock position. The weapons were now ready to be fired, the sergeant noted gladly. “Present!” Charles brought his musket into the crook of his shoulder, as did everyone else, his finger sitting by the trigger. He had placed his head against the neck of the gun, partly to get a better view, partly so that any flying debris would be less likely to hit him in the eyes. As Charles looked around, he caught sight of one of the enemy crew looking at him. “Fire” yelled Townsend. Almost immediately, Charles and his fellow marines all squeezed the trigger and released a hail of musket balls.
Instantly, Charles brought the weapon down from where it was and held it across his chance, returning the hammer cover and bringing the musket to half-cock, the safety position, until further orders were given.
“Shoulder arms, shut pans” Townsend ordered. Charles brought his musket to the correct position, such that the butt was supported in the palm of his left hand, the bottom of the barrel towards his shoulder. With his right forefinger and middle finger he flipped the hammer down on the pan, as ordered. “You men put up a good fight just now. The enemy will not be staying around much longer” Sergeant Townsend told his men. Having given them the necessary debriefing, the sergeant gave them the order to ease arms and disperse. With that, the men began milling about the deck, discussing their encounter with the pirates.
